With the new Getty
Center gleaming on a ridge above, treasures and pleasures of the Westside
awaiting, minutes away, Brentwood has become the most convenient and
sought-after area in Los Angeles' Westside.
From Sullivan Canyon and Santa
Monica on the westerly border, to Westwood Hills to the east, zip code 90049 also borders Encino to the north, and west
Los Angeles
and the
Veteran's Complex to the south. |

San Vicente Boulevard
, its median graced with signature Coral Trees, is the artery of
Brentwood to
Santa Monica
's
bluffs. From dawn to darkness, the pedestrian and bicycle traffic co-exists
with vehicular traffic, affording the vehicle's inhabitants a vicarious
workout, or incentives, at the very least.
The beautifully remodeled Brentwood Country Club, located
in the center of
Brentwood
, has a legendary
kitchen and an excellent and friendly staff. This exclusive club features a
meticulously groomed golf course, beautiful swimming pool, and well-maintained
tennis facilities. For membership information, please contact Stanley Maron at 310.440.3600.
To the nostalgic local, the heart of
Brentwood
is the Brentwood Country Mart, courtyard-style shopping with an intimate,
open-air, hearth-heated patio. The Mart's news and book stand, which caters to
the entertainment industry, is a traditional first stop before "power
breakfasts." The addition of a new, hip restaurant with several “stations”
from which to chose breakfast and lunch was welcome after the demise of Marjan’s. As always,
there is the Chicken Roaster (Reddi-Chick) and a
salad/burger stand.
The
Brentwood
Village
at Sunset Boulevard and
Barrington Avenue
is host to Maria's
Pizza, #1 of several popular "circle" habitats in the
Brentwood
Village
, western circle. On the eastern
circle, there is Peppone's restaurant, a veritable
institution in the Dean Martin, leather-banquette-style genre, where Aldo Luongo paintings and discrete lighting still prevail. Also
on the eastern circle is the Hard Ware Store, a small jewelry store (not just
repairs!).
An open-air (somewhat organic) vegetable and herb market is
often held at
Brentwood
Village
, just below
Sunset Blvd., on Wednesday afternoons between 4:30 PM and 7 PM.
A phenomenon is the environmentally-sensitive, Clean
Living (dry cleaning store) adjacent to Brentwood Country Mart on
26th Street
.
Brentwood
hosts a wealth of excellent public and private schools, and is approximately 12 minutes in any direction from 3 hospitals.
Restaurant and boutique-shopping opportunities abound.
University
of
California
at
Los Angeles
(UCLA) is 10
minutes away. Public buses serve the
Federal
Building
on
Wilshire Blvd.
, Westwood, the
Getty
Center
,
and
Santa Monica
.
From dramatic ocean and coastline views to bucolic
Mandeville Canyon, from the prestigious estate atmosphere of Brentwood Park to convenient pied-a-terre condominiums, whatever the
feel you want, it's here (for
a price)! |
